Power hook up

The BUZZCOM VOX SYSTEM comes with an auxiliary power cord for use with aircraft DC power supply. The cigarette lighter connection is supplied for three axis aircraft.

Please be aware that there is a 4-amp fuse on the intercom face that needs to be checked should power fail. The LED above the fuse holder will illuminate when the fuse has blown indicating that there is a problem and the appropriate wiring must be checked.

CAUTION: To prevent blowing a fuse, insert the aux power plug into the intercom first and ensure that the aircraft ignition is off before plugging the cord into the aircraft cigarette lighter.

Volume Switch

The VOX SYSTEM is turned on when the aircraft ignition is switched on or the power cable is plugged in. The volume control adjusts the level for the intercom only. To increase the ATC or recorder volume, turn the volume up on the radio or recorder, not the intercom.

Radio

The radio switch has 2 positions:

Pilot: Only the pilot can talk to the ATC, but the pilot's headphone is now switched to the intercom so that the pilot and co-pilot can communicate and hear the ATC.

Both: The pilot and the co-pilot can talk to the ATC at the same time and communicate and hear the ATC.

Squelch

This control is adjusted by starting at the full clockwise position and then turning the knob counter-clockwise until the aircraft noise is just silenced. You should now be able to speak into the headset microphone and activate the intercom.

Red Light

The indicator shows when the voice activated intercom is active. The curly cable PTT can be mounted to the control bar on the trike or joystick on a three axis aircraft.

Record In / Out

The BUZZCOM VOX SYSTEM is equipped with record in and record out jacks. To listen to any external audio, simply plug the in/out cable provided into the record in jack and into the appropriate jack on the recorder.

Please Note: When using an Icom A5/A23 the SIDE -TONE level MUST be set to the minimum to avoid microphone feedback. This is done by holding the PTT button and pressing the down arrow or turning the knob anti-clockwise until the display reads "ST - 0".

HELMETS

Colours: Black, White, Blue, Red & Yellow

Sizes: S, M, L, XL, & XXL

Buzzcom helmets are locally manufactured to the same impact absorption as motorcycle helmets and have been tested and approved by the SABS. The inner lining has a recess which allows the helmet to fit over most common aircraft headsets.

The visors are injection-moulded from polycarbonate Lexan and due to their manufacturing process are what is called optically perfect. there is no distortion no matter which direction you look. The visor has a locking latch to prevent it being accidentally flipped open during flight.

HEADSETS

The same Peltor H7A shell is used for paraglider applications. A radio jack connects straight to the portable with a push-to-talk switch mounted on the headset. These are available in either left or right hand microphone boom configuration.

Paraglider Headsets

Headset shells are imported Peltor H7A range with a noise attenuation from low to high frequency of 16-33db. The headsets are then assembled to suit high noise aircraft environments. Headsets can be made up to specific requirements: cable lengths from 0.5 to 2m; mike boom either left or right-hand side with or without volume control. Stereo jack plugs are fitted to the end of the headset cables.

ICOM RADIOS

Suppliers of ICOM A5 and A23E airband radios. All accessories for ICOM radios can be supplied. The ICOM A200 is available for the pilot requiring extra output power. This is a panelmount radio and more suitable for 3-axis aircraft. For experimental aircraft, the more powerful ICOM A110 Radio is recommended.

Icom A3 / A4 / A22

When the intercom has been wired up to operate with the radios specified above, it will correctly with these radios only.

If you require the intercom to operate with any other radio it is recommended that you contact your local dealer of Buzzcom directly.
